In tribute to some of the great American singers and songwriters of our time, Melbourne vocalist of international acclaim Julia Messenger, along with her quintet, will present Lush Life – Songs of the Great American Songbook.

Messenger earns rave reviews around the world for her exquisite vocal technique and ability to get to the heart of a song. The versatile singer-songwriter, with her voice expressing an incredible range of tone, mood and emotion, along with her magnetic stage presence, has a busy career both in Australia and abroad.

Julia will delight in spotlighting some of those heartfelt and timeless pieces along with some more recent songs of note which have gained prominence and standing among audiences both as favourites, to the slightly more obscure.

Lush Life will showcase greats such as Billy Strayhorn, Ellington, Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Mercer, Arlen, Kern, Hammerstein along with legendary singers such as Billie Holiday, Nancy Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Peggy Lee, Roberta Flack and Nina Simone. Julia will also delight in showcasing a couple of legends of blues also.

Julia Messenger has been dubbed a 'world - class' singer by fans and press alike. Her songs and productions have appeared on albums alongside the likes of Amy Winehouse, Norah Jones, Joss Stone, Moby, Bebel Gilberto, Boozoo Bajou, Nitin Sawhney, Groove Armada, Ursula Rucker, Goldfrapp, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Zero 7, Rae & Christian, Basement Jaxx, Jamie Callum, Sarah McLachlan and Julee Cruise.  

Currently she is working on writing and recording new material @  Milk Bar Studio in Brunswick, Australia.

As a songwriter/singer and producer she has co-written and appeared on albums with legendary musicians of our time such as Klaus Schulze (Tangerine Dream/ Alphaville), Ferry Corsten (#5 DJ in the world today), Kraftwerk and the list goes on.

Termed in the Electronic world as the 'Queen of Chill', she is as much at home singing Jazz as she is at being one of the 'rare strokes of luck in the electronic music scene'.

Julia has also recorded a Live Album at Australia's Premier Jazz Club Bennetts Lane over two sell out nights. She formerly released this album at a further sell out show at Bennetts Lane in November 2011, after her return from a successful European tour.
